taxi4ballet
Hi all, I'm after some advice on behalf of a friend of mine whose dd has seen an advert for a Joffrey summer intensive in the USA. She's heard of Joffrey, but is all confused now as there seem to be two Joffrey schools - one in Chicago and one in New York. The intensive is in Chicago. Are they different organisations entirely or are they linked in some way?
swanprincess
I may be wrong but I think the Joffrey company is in Chicago and the school is in new York?
Anon2
I googled 'Joffrey New York or Chicago' last year after dd meet a girl from Joffrey NY. From what I remember they are linked somehow.

dancemad
Hi Taxi4ballet. They are completely different organisations. Joffrey Ballet Company is in Chicago and has a pre pro vocational ballet school linked to them. Joffrey NY is the remnants of the old Robert Joffrey school. The Chicago summer intensive is of a far greater standard than NY. Hope that helps.
taxi4ballet
Thanks, I'll let my friend know. I had a look at the website - it's a whole different world with the summer intensives in the US isn't it? They are run for 5 or 6 weeks and cost thousands. dancemad
Yes indeed. BIG business!!
Picturesinthefirelight
It seems to be that to gain entry to a prestigious schools "year round programme" you have to attend their summer intensive. As the schools over there have a much much longer summer break dancers feel that taking the whole summer off is too long I guess.
taxi4ballet
Perhaps it's also because of the 'summer camp' tradition over there too.
