Yaffa
So if I understand correctly, the ballet dates which might be open to the public will be: Second round:19 December 2014, Northern Ballet, Leeds(Just called to see if this is open to the public. They don't know and asked me to call back later.) Category Finals:19–22 March 2015, one category per evening - The Riverfront, Newport, South Wales(Just called and they also don't yet know which category will be on which date.) Final:9 May 2015, Sadler’s Wells, London. Yaffa
Yaffa
The Newport Central Travelodge: http://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/399/Newport-Central-hotel is apparently very close to where the ballet finals will be held, and currently has both family rooms and twin rooms available for each of the nights (19th to 22nd March) for £25 per room - They'll probably go quite quickly. Anyone who's interested in cutting the cost further by sharing the rent of an apartment/house for the weekend, please send me a PM. How about a balletcoforum meetup that weekend? Yaffa
Just saw that they are now accepting videos online as well as by post, with the closing date of 1st November. Does anyone know if the vocational schools are entering? Yaffa
taxi4ballet
I believe I've seen something on Facebook from one of the schools, can't remember which one though.
Yaffa
Just saw that the deadline for applications has been extended until 17th November. Yaffa
Yaffa
Tickets for the final (9th May) are now on sale at the Sadler's Wells site (and eligible for the 20% multibuy discount if you buy the same number of seats for a different performance). See: http://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/2015/bbc-young-dancer-2015-grand-final/ NB: This is the overall final (all genres), not the ballet final Yaffa [edited for clarity] Edited November 14, 2014 by Yaffa

Yaffa
According their Facebook and Twitter pages ( https://www.facebook.com/bbcyoungdancer and https://twitter.com/bbcyoungdancer ), they have just notified the people who have got through to the 2nd round. Haven't seen a list of those people yet; I'd be interested to know if they include ballet candidates from vocational schools. Yaffa
Hambleton
Is certainly at least one Tring pupil but I don't know what dance genre.
Nana Lily
Centre Pointe in Manchester have announced on their FB page they have one current student in the contemporary final of 20, and one graduate now at Elmhurst in the final 20 for classical. I tried to paste a link, but can't for doe reason. Well done to both girls.
Lottie
From Central School of Ballet FB page this afternoon: 'Congratulations to 4 of our third year students who are through to the second round of BBC's Young Dancer competition! They are busy rehearsing for their live performances in front of the judges in December.'
Guesty
3 are going from Tring.
Lottie
From the 4 at Central. I think 2 are in the Ballet category and 2 in the Contemporary one.
Pas de Quatre
Isn't there a list anywhere of those who were successful, like they do for Prix de Lausanne?
taxi4ballet
Isn't there a list anywhere of those who were successful, like they do for Prix de Lausanne? Odd isn't it? They seem to be keeping the whole thing very hush-hush for some reason.
Pas de Quatre
Yes it is strange! Any other competition publishes the results quite quickly of who has got into the next round. It would seem the schools have been sworn to silence too.
Lottie
Looking at 'Young Musician', which I think is along the same lines as 'Young Dancer', they seem to announce only those who have got into the final round. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/26PCHVlBhVQCJSBYWwMfRdJ/competitors Perhaps this competition will be like that one and wewon't know until the next round has happened
taxi4ballet
Thing is though - dd has facebook contacts with a fair few older friends who are at some of the vocational schools and there's nothing coming out at all on the grapevine. Nobody's saying anything. It's really strange. No doubt we'll find out in the fullness of time!
Lottie
I too was wondering if anyone from RBS, ENBS, Rambert or Elmhurst has got got through, but then again haven't heard if they entered in the first place. Anyone know of anyone from those schools who entered and has got through to the next round?
hfbrew
It might be down to the BBC if its yet to be televised. I am only conjecturing but if they show early rounds then they wont want viewers to know results. A friend of mines son was on the winning University Challenge side some years ago and all the competitors were sworn to secrecy about the results. So she didnt know her son had won until it was broadcast quite some time after it was filmed. So I wonder if similar restrictions have been placed in this young dancer competition. Picturesinthefirelight
Some of The rounds of BBC Young Musician are filmed & broadcast months later closer to the final it looks like its done over the course of a week but its not. Competitors are not allowed to give out results.
Picturesinthefirelight
One if dds best friends was in the final of Child Genius. She wasn't allowed to tell anyone how far she got until it was broadcast.
taximom
A dancer from DD's old dance school is also through, not sure if if is classical or contemporary. Good to hear it isn't all vocational students!!

Yaffa
Tickets for the 2nd round (18th and 19th December - I think ballet is on the 19th) are now available for free (max 4 per night) at the Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds: http://theatreleeds.com/d/?q=event/bbc-young-dancer-2015 I called the Riverfront in Newport (hosting the category finals in 19th-22nd March). They aren't yet sure when they'll start selling tickets. Tickets for the overall final (9th May) were available on the Sadler's Wells site but they are currently sold out. Oldermum
Enjoyable evening watching the wonderful talent of the young dancers at the 2nd round of the ballet. Well danced everyone. Pity they didn't announce those who have got through to the next round.
Balletchick
I was lucky enough to watch both the contemporary and the ballet finals, wow! Every single dancer was exceptionally talented, I wouldn't want to be a judge! I would have loved to know who had got through, but congratulations to all the dancers!
Yaffa
Thanks for the updates. Are you able to say which schools the candidates come from and/or which vocational schools are represented, particularly in the ballet category? Thanks Yaffa
