Jan McNulty
I've just picked this up via Twitter: http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/article/1221023/baileys-recreates-the-nutcracker-ballet-sumptuous-christmas-ad I really enjoyed it!
Beryl H
Nice to see Iana Salenko and Steven McRae again, also Thiago Soares, just been reading the Radio Times and there's a sensible article about Black Swan tomorrow, might just watch it to see the advert on a bigger screen! Ian Macmillan
Naomi just beat me to it on this link - but be aware that I discovered it to be Age Restricted to over-18s. Can't see why, I must say.

Jan McNulty
The only reason I could think is that the advert relates to alcohol.
Ian Macmillan
Janet: I expect you're right on that - it really can't be for any other reason. At any rate, the video has caught Judith Mackrell's eye on Twitter and I see she's already promised a MoveTube feature on it for Monday's Guardian ..... so there's a Link for you!

alison
Indeed. It's really annoying - every time I need to research beer production, or something, I have to jump through all these hoops to be allowed on the page, but there you are. I'm surprised to see Salenko in it, though, if she's only a guest principal.
bangorballetboy
I'm surprised to see Salenko in it, though, if she's only a guest principal. I don't think it's a Royal Ballet "thing".

Jan McNulty
Perhaps she was the first dancer in and asked the other two!
SMballet
God, HOW MUCH money did they spend on this 5 minute thing???!
tabitha
This is fabulous. So pleased they used top class professional ballet dancers in this. It really adds to the quality. Love it!
Ian Macmillan
God, HOW MUCH money did they spend on this 5 minute thing???! In fact, the ad itself runs just over 2 minutes, and I imagine that the 'extravagant' description used in the covering Marketing Magazine article speaks volumes for the production costs. But it's not alone by any means as we approach the Christmas retail season - see the ads for John Lewis, M&S, and others, all of which may have cost more. John Mallinson
Thiago Soares mentioned this project in his Ballet Association interview on Tuesday (without giving away details of what it was). He reckoned there was a cast and crew of 200! Loadsamoney involved by the sound of it.
Jules
I was happy to see Iana in this. She is lovely as ever
JulieW
I put it on my FB page early yesterday when it first came to my attention and didn't have any trouble viewing it (but perhaps YouTube already knows I'm over 18!). I love it - thank goodness they chose "proper" ballet dancers (and 2 of my favourites) - I've seen some very dodgy ballet dancers in music videos in the gym recently ;-) There's obviously plenty of money in some companies' advertising budgets for Christmas this year - though why on earth I keep crying at an animated bear I don't know (and the gentleman making dinner for himself in the Sainsburys ad set me off too despite the fact he looked happy enough!!)

zxDaveM
well, lets just hope the Christmas TV PROGRAMS keep up with this burst of artistic effort the ad makers are putting out...
taxi4ballet
There have been several ads featuring ballet recently, seems to be a new trend
Anna C
Yes, even the little ITV trailer thing just before Downton Abbey - ballet dancers in black and white tutus!
KathyG
Julie so glad you said that about the bear it got me too though the kids don't get it!
alison
well, lets just hope the Christmas TV PROGRAMS keep up with this burst of artistic effort the ad makers are putting out... It would be nice, wouldn't it? And just think what *they* could come up with if they threw a similar amount of money at their programming to what I suspect has been spent on this.
Anna C
I'm easily pleased - as long as The Snowman is on on Christmas Eve, along with Carols from Kings - perfect. We don't tend to watch TV on Christmas Day but if Dr Who, Eastenders, and Downton Abbey are on for me to record then I'm happy. IIRC, "Death comes to Pemberley" - filmed at Chatsworth - is due to air over Christmas too.
DavidW
Thought this advert was fantastic - shows a bit of drama as well as awesome dancing (that turning split leap from McRae is pretty epic). One thing I didn't quite get was the tagline of "Spend time with the girls this Christmas". Didn't Iana spend most of the advert dancing with the guys?! Seems a little at odds with the visual...
taxi4ballet
Perhaps she gets tired of being fought over, kicks the guy in the head with her pointe shoe and then goes back to having fun with her pals?
Anna C
I didn't get the tagline at all - bit random! Not sure why they needed it - the "Baileys - Christmas with spirit" made more sense.
chrischris
I don't think anything could make me drink baileys. It's disgusting.
Anna C
Er...ok! :-) I rather like a little glass of Baileys while decorating the tree. Still, each to their own - I still think the advert is good.
Jan McNulty
I don't think anything could make me drink baileys. It's disgusting. I used to feel like that and wish I still did!! How one's taste changes with age!!!

LinMM
I'm the other way.....used to love it many moons ago but now find it a bit sickly. Having said that though got stuck into a few coco loco cocktails when on holiday which has chocolatey overtones though Bailys is richer.
