Please are there any threads on insurance for dancer working abroad! Did search but didn’t really come up - any help at all would be great. Thank you in advance 🩷

Hi. Not sure about threads on this topic.
Maybe helpful to know if this be for medical insurance and/or travel insurance as there are so many variables. I appreciate that you may not want to share too many details though
Incl Visa based, Length of time away.
ie If eligible the GHIC (application online) is the reciprocal health agreement between the NHS and some EU countries negating the requirement for additional policy.

And then whether it’s America, Europe mainland, EU only or further afield.

Self employed or contract through a company.  One venue or touring etc.

I guess the question is what do you require insurance for.

Travel,

Medical/ accident,

Public liability…?

Equity have a very competitive insurance policy.

There have also been some recent updates.

The GHIC is very good, and means you will be treated like a local. However in many countries, e.g. France, treatment is not entirely free, the patient makes a contribution. If you need to be repatriated, these expenses are not covered so you may be better having typical travel insurance. However if working, shouldn't insurance be part of the salary package?

And again here is another glaring area where dance jobs too often do not reflect what one should expect in employment & how do so called companies get away with this? How does the law relate I wonder?

Hi guys

thanks for input

we’re thinking

travel and health insurance companies!

GHIC - yes will get that thank you

will also look at equity - thank you

being reimbursed for visa/flights - but will check for insurance!

Although this is what all our DD’s/DS’s are working towards, and you all hope that yes it will happen, but now it finally has, we’re in shock 🤣 happy, excited but also nervous all rolled into one! The start of the next chapter in this crazy journey 🩷🩷

Congratulations, exciting times ahead.

Please do read the small print very carefully as many policies only cover for trips of up to 90 days.
There are alternative policies out there that cover young adults who go traveling on a gap year which may offer the extended cover you are seeking. Many companies offer full wrap around care for their performers (incl during their time off) as it’s all part of the visa requirements.

MillStream offer a policy in the short term if you find yourself already away without cover or the old policy has expired whilst away. Which is also helpful to know.

Medical insurance is often a requirement of the visa/residency permit. However depending on the country your dancer may be eligible to sign up for the state provision in their country, if they’re employed and paying tax/NI equivalent.   GHIC generally only covers short term travellers and not those moving to/working in the country. We’ve had to arrange this this year and ended up going with Allianz in the short term, until they can sign up in the country of residence to the health provision there.
