Just wondering why gymnasts don’t spot when turning? I had wondered whether it would spin them too fast, but that could be (and often was, for me anyway 😉) the case for ballet dancers too unless it’s controlled. 
 

I saw a few including the top gymnasts almost come to grief with their spins in the team competition and that set me wondering.

I couldn't tell that they weren't spotting but I have been surprised when watching over the last few days that a number of the gymnasts in their floor routines have been able to excecute incredibly complicated tumbling routines but have looked like they were having difficulties doing turns that look like they should be much easier. Perhaps a lack of spotting is part of the reason for that.
