  1. Talking of Osbert Lancaster, I was thrilled to see this report from the opening night of the RB’s 1954 production at a recent ROH collections event.
  2. I was in the front row last night. I could tell that it was an ear of corn. I also know the old wives' tale about testing love with an ear of corn, but I'm really of country stock turned metropolitan... A small change has been made here. It used to be that Swanhilde left the stage after the corn scene and then returned to do the next dance. This didn't make sense as she turned from sad to happy in the blink of an eye, so the dropping of the corn and the resultant rattle has been added.
  3. The thing is, though, people in general are not squeaking. One month on from the Fidelio issues and everyone (apart from one or two) has completely forgotten. A handful of people and a couple of newspaper articles will not cause anything to change.
  4. And if anyone spots anything for the gents...
  5. I don’t think that’s the case, unless the article has changed. The article looks to me to be based on a press release, which includes a quote from the CEO (nothing unusual there). So far as performers are concerned, it says: “Dancers performing on January 26th include many of the following - confirmations to follow” [my emphasis]. As is usual with galas of this kind (and this one in particular), the list of performers won’t really be finalised until a day or two before the performance itself.
  6. What, the one where you say: "Naghdi, the youngest RB principal"? Maybe I need to go to Specsavers but I don't see any reference to female in that statement.
  7. I have SCS D26 available for Sleeping Beauty on 2 December. Face value is £11. Please PM if interested.
  8. Nothing to do with the committee. We’re here to run this forum, not correspond with newspapers.
  9. A significant number of members who frequent the Doing Dance section of the forum do not often look at the other sections!
  10. I seem to have been in a significant minority in being intrigued by the Les Beaux dormants segment, particularly the music. Whether or not I could manage the whole piece is another matter but, if I can find a decent ticket, I might give it a go on Friday. I really think people shouldn't presume to speak on behalf of others as to what they might or might not have expected to see at this insight.
  11. Intelligence is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  12. I don’t think it’s a standard “forthcoming production” insight: “Petipa’s timeless classic returns to the Main Stage this Season and Hélène Blackburn brings Les Beaux dormants (the sleeping beauties) to the Linbury Theatre. This Insight explores the world of The Sleeping Beauty and the ways it has been made into ballet.”
  13. No, they are voted for by members of the dance section of the Critics' Circle.
