  1. have you been watching Young Frankenstein again? 🤣
  2. Marina Poplavskaya sang a number of lead roles at the Met. Quite a number of others are pretty well known now, including (and apologies if I miss people from the list) David Butt-Philip, Anita Watson, Hannah Hipp, Ailish Tynan, Anna Devin, Sally Matthews, Jacques Imbrailo and Matthew Rose. And there’s also Alfie Boe.

  4. There was a Q&A session last week with Alex Beard, Ollie Mears and Kevin O’Hare for ROH benefactors. I’m sure I’m not breaking confidences by advising that KOH said there was a date in the diary for company class to start again (14 July IIRC). Obviously that’s not set in stone but it’s a signal that there are proper plans in place for a gradual return for the company to be able to perform in some way.
  5. Interesting, the news on the wireless this morning said that around 700,000 pupils did not have adequate access for online learning. It may not be the majority but it's certainly a very significant figure. I am a school governor and find some of the statements on this thread quite incredible. Luckily, my experience over the last three months has been very different to that described by Peony. I don't know whether it is because 'my' school is an academy but there was no way it would be completely shut and, in fact, those teachers who are not shielding or vulnerable themselves have really gone out of their way to ensure that those pupils in school are provided for and with decent provision for home learning for those that aren't. As mentioned above, the time taken by teachers in contacting all pupils (and parents) and, especially, dealing with those who need additional support or are vulnerable is significant (and appreciated). However (and as has been mentioned above), safeguarding is the biggest issue that prevents live on-line teaching at both primary and secondary levels. This is a real issue, particularly with pupils who are already in a vulnerable position and I don't know the answer (other than the base line is that children must be protected and that is the over-riding priority).
  6. The not so brilliant weather today meant the common was nice and quiet earlier. This allowed us the opportunity to get pretty close to a pair or grey herons who were wandering/sitting/flying about.
  7. I'm sure the article in The Stage reported £300m a month but still, relatively speaking, small change.
  8. The Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet (and the ROH orchestra) continued to perform in other venues.
  9. I imagine so, as a month ago they wouldn't have been able to say anything about potentially having performances in the RAH.
  10. The '82 revival was SWRB at Sadlers' Wells (which might explain its absence from the ROH Collections database).
  11. To be honest, I find this "Karen" thing that some people have got going highly unpleasant and extremely offensive. Tends to say more about the person using the term than anything else.
  12. I'm quite surprised that you think the streaming of opera and ballet is business as usual. The first two items on the webpage relate to streaming and they do so very clearly. There are no references anywhere to live performances. You may not like the layout compared to others, but that's another thing entirely.
  13. Details of the current and upcoming streamed performances are on the ROH home page (so not sure I get your point). It's a whole one or two clicks (depending on the piece) from there to the stream itself. There is also a link to the Create & Learn page. I've not seen any other major opera or ballet organisation having a similar programme for children at this time (though I've not looked too hard).
  14. And what would be the point in announcing hypothetical situations (with the resultant disappointments that would arise when things don't happen)? Why not just wait and an announcement of what is going to happen will be made once a workable position is known? There are plans being worked on in the background; the ROH and company management are not just sitting on their hands!
  15. They are only showing the category finals for now (which were recorded pre-lockdown). https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2020/young-musician
  16. Well, I've renewed my Friends membership today. The quickest way to lose the companies that we know and love would be for them to run out of money.
  17. It's not an autocorrect, but amongst my favourites is the wonderful "Thank you for your daft agreement."
