Is it time for an Ashton Festival?
bangorballetboy replied to Rina's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I thought Valses nobles et sentimentales was programmed next month? -
There was no intention to cause offence. This was in response to a point on the number of views the relevant thread had had and how this meant people were interested. The number of likes (or the lack of them) is to me a more useful indicator of how people are interacting with a thread (and, being involved in the interpretation of social media interaction for another organisation, I see time and again how this sort of metric is very important compared to views). Again, there was no intention to cause offence; I should probably have considered more how the tone of the posting could have been interpreted by others and so, I sincerely and unconditionally apologise.

Royal Ballet's Giselle - Autumn 2021
bangorballetboy replied to Sim's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I saw Giselle in this run from a number of places, including the Grand Tier, Stalls Circle standing and the front row of the Stalls. In none of those locations did MT’s brown tights and shoes cause any distraction for me from the overall visual effect in act 2. -
I thought this was a thread about R&J at the RAH. Must be my mistake as it appears to be another PR-fest for Polunin. What a shame it’s gone in this direction. It was an interesting thread.

You could also try counting the “likes”. It won’t take very long.

The cast sheet for tonight's RB performance of Giselle says: "Tonight we celebrate Laura Morera’s 25 years with The Royal Ballet since joining the Company in 1995." Excellent news and I'm assuming there will be a presentation of her silver medal. Glad I have a prime front row seat!

Dance on terrestrial TV

Of course, the connection between these versions of American in Paris and Anything Goes is the wonderful Haydn Oakley (and there is a ballet connection too as he is married to a former RB dancer).- 1,185 replies

I really don't think these are aimed at us ballet lovers, rather at rich Russians with more money than sense.- 34 replies

It's effectively buying the original of an artwork with the ability to distribute copies. -
That's right but worth noting that if there is a tie when the judges' and public's scores are added together, the couple with the better public vote score is placed higher.

I understand the training and effort but I still thoroughly dislike (detest) applause during the music (and particularly at an emotionally important part of the story). Similarly, the bumptious applause that greeted Myrthe's entrance on Wednesday evening at ROH completely destroyed the atmosphere that is carefully developed through the music.- 838 replies
