Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II
bangorballetboy replied to alison's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The two Proms concerts were the final 2 concerts in the Philadelphia Orchestra's tour. They had already played 4 concerts in Edinburgh, 2 in Hamburg, 1 in Berlin, 1 in Dresden, 2 in Lucerne and 2 in Paris. So not a completely wasted trip across the Atlantic. -
I hope you messaged them in green ink! The photograph of Bracewell and Kaneko is used to advertise all of the upcoming "Insights: The Royal Ballet in Rehearsal" events (at least that the case on the ROH website). TBH I don't care what photograph they use, I'm just glad they tell us what ballet is scheduled to be rehearsed, information we didn't have in advance until recently.

Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II
bangorballetboy replied to alison's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Yesterday afternoon around 50 Prommers gathered on the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Steps at the Royal Albert Hall. After a minute’s silence, they laid the carnations that would have been used to make buttonholes for the Last Night performers around/on the dedication stone. Standing in a circle around the dedication stone, they then sang Jerusalem, the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne. It was very moving.- 51 replies

I have to say that, given this is a free event for Friends with "behind the scenes access, tours and activities", I'm very disappointed at the extremely negative reaction of many on this thread. The ROH is doing something to help ensure that Friends don't think they are being taken from granted (which I think is very important) and I applaud that. I will try to get tickets, notwithstanding the minimal information.

Concerts featuring dance (scores?)
bangorballetboy replied to John Mallinson's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
In the Q&A in the programme for last night's concert the conductor said something along the lines of: "people who have heard me conduct ballet music ask me if I have danced ballet." Listening to his Swan Lake, I wondered whether he has ever seen a ballet! -
Royal Ballet 2022/23 Winter Ticket Prices

Mariinsky is only ten time cheaper if you compare the cheapest ticket there and the most expensive ticket for RB.- 238 replies

Just to be clear, it's Wagner as reduced by Graham Vick and Jonathan Dove. Siegfried in 120 minutes and Götterdämmerung in 150!!!

It is indeed what the three cheers were for. I knew the result after the Birtwistle (because my phone had buzzed with a "BBC breaking news" alert). I'm not sure what news you were checking but it was the lead story on the TV and radio news when I got home.

The ROH booking website - what can we do?
bangorballetboy replied to Geoff's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
FWIW this was my view for Ireland v Argentina in the rugby World Cup quarter final at the (then called) Millennium Stadium in Cardif. The seat cost the same as those around it so this isn’t something that just affects opera houses!!! -
Royal Ballet 2022/23 Winter Ticket Prices
bangorballetboy replied to Bluebird's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
When Chicago was last on at the Phoenix, they didn't have an official day seats policy. I turned up at the box office when they were opening and politely enquired about day seats. The nice man said they didn't do day seats. I said, I could walk round to TKTS and get a ticket there but wouldn't it be easier for him to just do me a deal and save me the walk and the booking fee? I ended up in the second row of the stalls for (IIRC) £30 and with a rose at the end from Velma Kelly for good measure.- 238 replies

Royal Ballet 2022/23 Winter Ticket Prices
bangorballetboy replied to Bluebird's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I wouldn't say that. I've been in row R of the Dominion and the penultimate row of the circle in the Phoenix. Different theatres have different policies as to where the rush tickets are.- 238 replies

I've sat in the ROH amphi many times (often in row U so even further back than row R, which is where the seat is for that picture). I am 5'4" and have never had a problem with heads in front.- 238 replies

Thanks Bruce. I hadn't realised the seats in that band came quite that far round but, for me, there's still a lot of the stage not visible - everything is, of course, personal choice!- 238 replies

Royal Ballet 2022/23 Winter Ticket Prices
bangorballetboy replied to Bluebird's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I was responding to the following comment: "ROH, I checked, ticket prices overall are the most expensive in the world compared to other same type venues in the arts (not football)." Although you may have identified a reason for the differential, that statement is clearly incorrect.- 238 replies

Top price for Swan Lake at the Bolshoi is RUR 15,000 (at today's FX rates, that's a few pennies below £215).- 238 replies

Royal Ballet 2022/23 Winter Ticket Prices
bangorballetboy replied to Bluebird's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Thanks, I did take that into account. Still, NYCB is more expensive (at the top end) than all RB shows this Autumn and Winter other than Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker (and with the latter, it's not much of a difference) and significantly more expensive at the bottom end.- 238 replies

Royal Ballet 2022/23 Winter Ticket Prices
bangorballetboy replied to Bluebird's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
NYCB prices for all shows in NYC (mixed bills and full lengths) have a top price of $173 and a bottom price of $38 (and the $38 tickets have a dismal view). The other price bands are $133, $100 and $70. To get anything like the view from the best ROH standing tickets, you'd have to pay at least $100. [This is based on the prices shown to build a subscription package and so doesn't include the fourth ring.] La Boheme next season at the Met: prices between $37 and $460.- 238 replies

This picture was taken from row U of the amphitheatre. With a decent pair of binoculars (mine cost about £20 or £25 from Jessops) you really can see facial expressions etc. from up there.- 238 replies
