  4. I understand that Sir Matthew Bourne announced on TV earlier this morning that a version of Romeo and Juliet will be his next project: https://twitter.com/DanceTabs/status/1050294124094603264 Using the Prokofiev score? Presumably?

  7. A slightly odd Twitter exchange here between two critics. Is Luke Jennings suggesting that Ms Osipova had remained very much in character at the curtain, or that she appeared to be unhappy about some performance aspect or other? Suggestions from those who were there?
  8. Having lived with this topic on and off all of today, I'm most struck by the fact that nowhere at all do the number-crunchers raise the attractiveness of the programmes (Opera too, remember) as a potential factor in the seat-occupancy equation. The implication might then be that it makes no difference what's on offer. And that might be an issue that's beyond factoring into their algorithms.
  9. Only a very quick look at the document in Yaffa's link, above, but this is page 25, and may hold some clues. I assume that Red signifies the hottest seats? So, do you see yourself as a High or Low-Level Member?
  10. Looks like a very happy cast at the end of last night's Opening, and perhaps the start of a Standing Ovation? https://twitter.com/alaindassylva/status/1048035304861552641
  11. I've certainly seen the "X has replied, Show me" message several times to day whilst monitoring the 'Evidence-based ' thread.
  12. It's now on Twitter, starting here: https://twitter.com/old141nav/status/1048124266917584901 https://twitter.com/BalletcoForum/status/1048124539434151936 Feel free to join in ......
  13. I tend to agree that it was well put together, given the material at hand, with the Maliphant dance interludes providing much of the glue. And given that material, just a tad long, perhaps? But I doubt that I learned much new from it, and would be unlikely to buy a DVD version, should one emerge.
  14. There will be a World Premiere tonight in Montreal, when Les Grands Ballets Canadiens give the first performance of Cathy Marston's full-evening version of D H Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. It's a story that should lend itself well to being developed around a number of Cathy's powerful pas de deux and I've heard from my sister, who attended an Open Rehearsal the other day, that something of the sort is very much on the cards. (Principals for two casts were taken through their paces by Cathy and her longtime associate Jenny Tattersall, and there was also a session with the cast as a whole.) I'm conscious that we don't hear much from Montreal on the Forum, but am hopeful that we might see some reactions to this new work. But for now, a taster from Cathy, and a rerun of a Montreal Gazette piece that appeared recently in Links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE3RuQWK-R8 https://montrealgazette.com/entertainment/local-arts/dance-sex-death-and-gamekeepers-as-lady-chatterley-and-giselle-ignite-the-stage
  15. Compared with previous years, this Facebook thing is turning out a touch shambolic - and I can't be alone. What looks like a count of the number watching has dropped from 4.4K to 2.4K in about 4 minutes. Looks like a rethink needed for next year.
  16. As a former aviator, I have never understood why a change from GMT (or timezone Zulu) was needed ..... but back to WBD.
  17. The first half of Alastair Macaulay's review of the Gala - see today's Links - is taken up with the significance of that statement.

  19. Mary, That's kind of you. (But, for the record, I had to pull out from that day's performance. We had quite a dump of snow that morning and my wife, one of those trapped overnight on the M11 on that infamous night back in 2002, declined to go! A pity, as I was quite looking forward to the Poulenc Stabat Mater, also on the bill, and rather trickier than the Ravel to my mind.)
  20. May I, on behalf of my colleagues in the Cambridge Philharmonic chorus, suggest that a non-professional choir can be perfectly capable of performing in Daphnis and Chloe, and pass on that they did just that in March of this year? Thank you.
