  2. Re Ms Cowley, all I've found thus far is her retweet of something by Graham Spicer (Gramilano) - a fact that would appear to confirm that she's joining the film cast. https://twitter.com/gramilano/status/1060596913744084992

  4. From what I can see, there's an open Comment section under Mr Powney's statement on the Royal Ballet School website. It would surely make more sense to take him on there? You would, of course, have to disclose your name .... but that's surely not an issue to someone with a valid grievance?
  5. .... and Xandra, have you noticed your mistake in the spelling of Naomi? Or perhaps a bit of intended irony?
  6. F-I-T-D: I've moved your post into the Doing Dance area where it's likely to find better and more informed responses.

  8. No - it didn't escape me, and I toyed with the idea of running it under Saturday's Misty Copeland feature. However, it was by then some days old and had been extensively covered on Twitter etc that it was scarcely news by the time the Telegraph took it up.

  12. Excellent news, of course, and another significant career step for Cathy - with the co-production aspect suggesting that Joffrey Ballet will be staging it later. So, the North American count increases, as is happening here too. Delighted!

  15. Meanwhile in New York, it seems that Broadway audiences are getting younger: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/19/theater/broadway-league-theater-audience-demographics.html
  16. Lizbie: Why should ballet be different? The answer, I'd say, is that ballet is silent - nobody speaks or gives explanation and the form is ill suited to telling a dense story.
  17. Alison, and anyone else seeking reviews - the Unbound season reviews started in Links, week of 22 April this year. And look out for more after San Francisco Ballet open a tour in Washington DC later this month (25 October).
  18. A nearly full house in Cambridge Arts Picturehouse for the streaming. It served as a reminder of the very considerable physical task faced by anyone dancing Rudolf, and Steven McCrae did exceedingly well. Sarah Lamb is equally to be commended, but I thought there was something just a bit special in Laura Morera's Larisch, augmented by some of the close-ups, I'd say. Kristen McNally, despite a valiant effort, seemed just too young for the Empress - perhaps I've become too used to her cheery, cheeky self when presenting World Ballet Day and the like. Or perhaps it's simply that she's not Mme Yanowsky. But a good show overall. And I think we saw BBB on a couple of occasions passing through the Floral Hall (if that's what it's still called).
  19. I''d discount Ms Mackrell going to NY Times. My understanding is that her decision was made to permit her more time to devote to writing books, but with occasional articles for the Guardian. And if I recall correctly, there was a considerable fuss at the time of Mr Macaulay's appointment about his coming from the UK when suitable US alternatives were available, and there are certainly a number of those around right now. Re Mayerling, I spent last week waiting for a Guardian review for our daily Links. The lack of one still strikes me as very odd indeed.
  20. We're getting a little heavy on the irony here, folks. We Mods have just had a difficult few days elsewhere on the Forum and could do without complaints here. Just a word to the wise, eh - your point has been adequately made.
