  2. Also King’s Birthday honour for Jen Blackwell BEM https://blackwells.biz/jen-blackwell-bem/ We’re beyond amazed at the huge honour Jen has received, being recognized for her services to Disabled People in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2023 with a British Empire Medal (BEM). Jen, who has Down’s syndrome, has captured hearts and opened the minds of people she has met through her work with DanceSyndrome over the past fifteen years. Jen and Sue created the charity when we couldn’t find any opportunities for Jen to be a community dance leader which was her dream job. Jen’s mainstream aspirations have broken down many barriers in her mission to get the world dancing, transcending the need for words in a society that is driven by forms, especially in social and care which has always been part of Jen’s life. Jen continues to be an inspiration, mesmerising attendees at conferences as much as encouraging individuals to move their bodies in the best way for them in the community dance workshops she co-leads each week. Jen said, “I’m amazed to receive this honour for what I love doing. I’m proud of who I am and the achievements of DanceSyndrome. It’s an honour to inspire others to dance and live a life of their choosing. I believe that everybody can dance and do things they love no matter how other people define us.” https://dancesyndrome.co.uk/ Congratulations Jen Blackwell!
  3. A few wider 'arts' ones but it's hard work going through the small print!
  4. Nor do many places, but this was supposed to be part of the 'Next Generation Festival' for up and coming dancers / companies? If some of the youngsters danced this PDD on other nights, I think they should have been given the opportunity on the 'big' night. I wonder why not?
  5. Well... we did have a long discussion about Peterborough, after a certain critic had suggested it was being short changed? Or even patronised? https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/patronising-to-the-people-of-peterborough-brb2s-carlos-acosta-classical-selections-reviewed-2/ If on the first night would be bookers were there, and of course critics and the rest, I wonder if they knew what the company would be giving 'out in the sticks'? (I live very much in the sticks BTW, though I can't see the company being in any village halls!)
  6. Or perhaps a little honesty? Either this is for young dancers as a showcase & experience, or it isn't. It does make me wonder how much is being developed on the hoof. Also, was this to live or recorded music?
  7. I'm sure it was, but it certainly isn't what the company was set up to do, established senior dancers from BRB taking the limelight was it? Carlos Acosta's Classical Selection, which marks BRB2’s touring debut, a show designed to showcase the brilliant technique and virtuoso promise of these young dancers.
  8. BRB2 is a new initiative for which BRB pro-actively seeks out some of the best young ballet graduates from around the world to join a two-year performance programme, providing vital employment for the next generation of exceptional ballet dancers (aged 18-22) to transition from training into jobs at BRB or other leading ballet companies, impacting the dance sector worldwide. It will act as a magnet for the best UK and international talent, providing extensive training and professional experience, sending developed, professional dancers back into the dance sector and providing role models for the next generation. BRB2 is inspired by Dutch National Ballet Junior Company and ABT Studio Company. Some pretty bold claims here when the company was announced, but the impression given was that the established company members working with the others were mostly fairly junior being given opportunities, not 'leading' ladies! This does skew things rather. I wonder if those saying they would book the company have looked further into what is planned in future? Who will be dancing? https://www.brb.org.uk/the-company/brb2 The founder members of BRB2 are Oscar Kempsey-Fagg(UK), Mason King (UK/New Zealand), Frieda Kaden (Germany), Maïlène Katoch (France) and Jack Easton (USA). In 2022/23, BRB2 will also include seven exceptional dancers from the Company: Artists Enrique Bejarano Vidal, Olivia Chang Clarke, Regan Hutsell, Sofia Liñares, Eric Pinto Cata, Lucy Waine, and Soloist Riku Ito. BTW was the Linbury performance to live or recorded music (apart from the swan piece)? The first performance was, though from then on it toured with recorded.
  9. Yes. Though many said she wasn't Anastasia there were still some who claimed she was. It wasn't until 2007 that DNA testing proved conclusively that it was all... a fraud? A delusion? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Anderson

  11. There is a gorgeous film clip of Laura Morera dancing the 'green girl' from Dances at a Gathering on YT, I can't link as it isn't 'official' but a search Laura Morera channel belongs to D L.GrayII should bring it up. Just lovely. She could indeed do anything and do it brilliantly. I look forward to seeing how her career progresses from here.
  12. Thought these lovely photos of this Cecchetti Society event in May would brighten everyone's day. From Studio to Stage presented by the Cecchetti Society Trust took place on 14th May 2023 at The Royal Ballet School, Covent Garden. "Guest participants included Trust Patron and former Director of The Royal Ballet, Dame Monica Mason; Laura Morera, Principal of The Royal Ballet; Peter Parker former Principal Northern Ballet and Ballet du Rhin; Gerald Dowler dance author and Brandon Lawrence, Principal, Birmingham Royal Ballet. 13. Possible. See how it's sparking imaginations? Could well be an iceberg, and it's telling us the planet is DOOMED like the Titanic... Or it could be... well anything, really. Or simply a Carmen Herrera sculpture, n a sculpture park, where the dancers have gathered? They are... dancing at a gathering? It's a long way from Giselle's wee cottage anyhow. https://www.lissongallery.com/artists/carmen-herrera
  14. I suspect costumes got a bargain roll of fabric down the market. And a job lot of tights in Capezio or wherever. I'm merely posting so anyone new to all this can see why the critics were being er... critical. I liked the pleats in the skirts, I liked the skirts altogether I just wish the rest would be rethought.
  15. Re the curtain call pics. To illustrate: Julia Roscoe looks lovely in her big knickers and granny bra I have to say, though she'd look lovely in a sack I think. Those bits of ribbon though. Messy. Harry Churches in his tights and bondage straps. Pic is by @Rob S whose copyright it is. Apologies! It's been a long day. Thank @Emeralds!
  16. In action, before the latest modifications. It was only performed a handful of times before the revival. Eight I think?
