Terrific class. High energy teaching, he never stops, and the RB should consider him as a guest teacher... far far more interesting and complex work, using a wide range of steps, directions, than a great deal the RB presents on WBD to be frank (IMO). You'd improve very rapidly with that on a daily basis. No slacking. Covers a great deal. And he's right, about presenting your work, actually dancing, using epaulment and the rest. It's not simply a warm up for the day ahead. Great music too.

Malcolm Arnold Festival online
Ondine replied to VBdancer's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I'm just giving this a little boost as I have no idea for how long it will remain online. The entire day is a joy and the final interview with Dame Monica Mason and the MacMillan Solitaire solo with Viola Pantuso (not by Monica Mason!) really should not be missed. Looking now at that solo, possibly there is a foretaste of Elite Syncopations, which she also danced for the RBS end of year show? The theme this year was Malcolm Arnold's ballet music. That de Valois thought so highly of his ballet music speaks volumes. This is worth reading. https://www.paulrwjackson.co.uk/macmillan-and-music-revealing-macmillan/ 1956 Solitaire (only the Polka and Sarabande are new the rest of the music is the 8 English Dances) –Sir Malcolm Arnold. (Premiere-7 June, Sadler’s Wells theatre Ballet, Sadler’s Wells) In choosing Arnold’s music, MacMillan showed that he was able to hear more than the surface meaning of a work. Arnold was and indeed is famous for the vigour and humour in his works. Yet in all of his music, the English Dances being no exception, there is underlying sense of melancholy. -
POB class is here also

I hope it's there for a while too. It took several months for 2022 class to be removed and it is a mystery why it was, given all the other years that are still on YouTube. However I'm not going to hang about as I skipped some parts too. Some consistency would be useful.

I agree! Unflashy but oh so good. A class act. Perhaps KOH has his reasons. Maybe now is his time. He won the Junior Grand Prix Award at the 2014 Youth America Grand Prix and in 2015 Lee won the gold medal and The Prix De Lausanne. He was recently awarded the Ballet Circle, Dame Ninette Award for the Most Outstanding Male Graduate for 2018. https://www.roh.org.uk/people/harrison-lee

ANEMOI/THE CELLIST - ROYAL BALLET AUTUMN 2023
Ondine replied to Cescablue's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
For those who don't know, Harrison Lee is stepping in tonight to 'save the day'; never danced it, never properly rehearsed it! He looked good to me in the WBD rehearsal. More on the other thread as you say. -
Strangely I was watching Harrison Lee in class this morning and he stood out for me, lovely clean work, technically very sound, and I've caught up with the rehearsal now and he's going to ace it! Looking good. Quite daunting though. Hopefully Ikarashi is not too badly injured but a great chance for Harrison Lee to have his moment.

RB Casting - SPRING BOOKING PERIOD 2024

Perhaps still the old problem ongoing? How sad when she's only recently returned. She's so very beautiful a dancer. She has an on-going knee problem where the cartilage is not smooth enough and it is painful to plie. https://balletassociation.co.uk/pages/reports-2015-akane-takada- 151 replies

Very foolishly I made an appointment to have my health MOT this afternoon and I missed a great deal so am catching up, it's good to see that NB had this segment of the RB time and the further connections being forged between the companies.
-
In the recent Insights for Black History Month he said he was recommended by Wayne McGregor who has mentored him since he was 18 I recall? Must watch it again to check. So that could explain a great deal. Am I confused (well more than usual) is this a new position then or has someone else moved on?

Is this different to what he was doing? https://www.roh.org.uk/people/joseph-toonga

Donkey parody?? ! (Don Quixote pas de deux!) I do tend to spend a great deal of time madly shouting corrections it's always good to see that even the terrific dancers of the RB are technically sloppy in class at times! ! (Faffy arms a particular hatred of mine.) 😁 Joe Sissens has feet to DIE for. Sigh.

If you want endless hilarity, put the subtitles on the RBS stream on Youtube!

I think Dame Peggy Van Praagh did that from the outset! https://cicb.org/peggy-van-praagh/ In 1962 Peggy van Praagh returned to Australia as founding Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet. The company’s charter was to stage the classics from the nineteenth century, the most distinguished ballets of the twentieth century from all countries in both classical and contemporary styles, and new works of Australian origin. She guided the company’s growth from its beginnings to that of International status. The repertoire that she brought to the Australian Ballet Company included the great works of Ashton and Tudor. In fact, eight Ashton works were introduced into the repertoire under the directorship of van Praagh and/or Helpmann. Van Praagh had been one of Antony Tudor’s muses and principal dancer.

I like the honesty at the end of class, when asked what happens next, "Well they're all pretty b*ggered..."

i bought mine nicely cleaned in a box from Boots. I still have some in a box from Boots! It's rather old now. But fluffed up and put in the toes of shoes it worked well.

Well. What a treat! (Viola Pantuso is delightful, near the end of the afternoon, following a discussion with Dame Monica Mason.) https://www.malcolmarnoldfestival.com/ -

I tried several times yesterday but all it said was that the stream had not started yet when it I understood should have been live. -

One to watch! The Gold Medal was won by Jakob Wheway Hughes (16) from Britain, trained by Dance Faculty of Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. Rising star Jakob won the RAD’s Bedell’s Bursary in 2022 and the Barbara Geoghegan award in the Cecchetti Society Trust 2022-23. http://www.danceaustralia.com.au/news/silver-and-bronze-to-australians-at-fonteyns Majority of winners are male dancers I note.

I did, interesting to see a very different cast! It's a fun ballet.
