Our training in the UK can't be that bad as there wouldn't be as many talented foreign students wanting to train here. UK is known for its strong technical training and a lot of our home grown students do go on to get jobs. If I was going to reflect on training experience, then I would only be able to talk fr experience about two schools, as that is where my daughter trained. I would not be able to discuss traing from other schools as that would only be hear say. I am glad that my daughter is British trained and I am proud that she has worked extremely hard and has always appreciated her place at vocational school. I actually believe at Central the training is excellent. Graduates have gone on to do very well. If training is to change to keep up with what choreographers require then great, but please don't lose our identity along the way.

Meant to say whilst en point

RAD is by choice on a Saturday at central. Ballet classes are non syllabus. Two or three good clean pirouettes is expected I can imagine. More of they are correct and strong.

Don't worry about UK student not being en point until older. My daughters feet are a mess, blisters, bunions etc. she started point aged 11. Also our British dancers who really want to make it to professional level, won't be put of by written comments or negative views. They are used to having to work hard, they have grit, determination and a passion to succeed. You might get the odd couple who are used to success and achievement, so they don't realise what it is to fight to be looked at. The Japanese students do work hard including doing A levels alongside their degree.

The advice and support is fantastic. My daughter found a flat last year thanks to one of the mums on the forum and another mum passed us onto someone who does fantastic professional DVDs. We are so lucky to have this forum.

It's reputation is excellent and the training is of a high standard that their students go into top upper schools. Its a small school and I believe their academics side is good too.

You don't really get to see them so when you do they seem really nice. I tend to keep myself to myself so to speak, friendly but don't really get involved with banter

Is it meant to be a secret who the candidates are because everyone at central know who are students are and I know Trings?
-
That is sad Fiz. I remember years ago my daughter won the Greek section and we were delighted and so was my daughter, to only hear a mum from our dance school say to another mum that she didn't deserve to win as she didn't stretch her toes enough. It was horrible and because my daughter was stood there, it took the shine off. Some mothers are just horrible and can be so competitive and nasty, yet their children are lovely.

Some from Tring and some from central.

Fantastic news so far for your son Mrs G.

Sometimes the more you earn the less the value of the scholarship I think. Outgoing are not considered eg mortgage, car etc

Sugarplums mum you are an amazing mum. I hope things look up for you soon. Have you spoken to Tring as there may be other help available.

Sugarplums mum my heart goes out to you. Tring in particular is a very expensive school to be at. The fact that you are all together over Christmas is the most special thing of all. My son was very Poorly over Christmas last year, the fact that the whole family came together, helped us to try and enjoy Christmas, even though we knew that we were going to be in for a rough ride after Christmas.
What year is your daughter in? I know that she wouldn't want to leave but financially would it be worth her while to audition for second year upper school that does student loan?
Lots of best and sincere wishes sent to you.

British students lack motivation.....

To my knowledge my daughter receives hands on teaching. The teachers who are from different parts of the world are encouraging. There is mutual respect as they are all adults. The school offers ballet, point, rep, pas de deux, contemporary, singing lessons, drama and Pilates. They also have personal coaching in the third year. There is a physiotherapist on site everyday alongside other professionals eg councillors for emotional needs. I am not saying that All the schools offer this, but my daughters school does. I don't know about Royal, ENB or Rambert (upper school only), regarding what is on offer there. But I do stress that if British training isn't doing enough then why is there an ever increasing number of foreigners fighter for these places in Britain. The schools that are providing a disservice to their students should be reported, or named and shamed. All students are paying a lot of money for a service even with a scholarship, it would be very sad if a student was robbed of their chances due to poor teaching and encouragent. A final point regarding In particular lower vocational pupils, children learn in lots of different ways and some who are pushed to extreme at such a young age will be broken and emotionally damaged. Others may thrive. A good teacher should hopefully have a skill to nurture every student in their own unique way. I do know of a vocational school where lots of good dancers were ignored by orders of the principle. The other teachers disagreed with this principle, but nothing changed and never will until that principle has left. Other students who are the cream de la cream would Ofcourse rightfully disagree for themselves personally.
