Chaperone I know one of them who I know is a really good classical dancer has decided to not bother with company auditions, but wants to Persue her plan B. I don't want to reveal too much incase anyone is idetifyable. I think it takes guts after a life long life style, to hold your hand up and say enough is enough, I don't want this anymore.

It makes perfect sense aballetlife.

Some constant injury and stressing over recovery. Then the constant lows of never being good enough in their own minds. Some just don't want the same constant routine of classes and fall out of love with dance. Keeping to the correct weight and not having much of a social life. I am thinking that a lot of these points play a factor in their decisions.

Shocked to hear of so many talented dancers who no longer want to dance once their training is complete. I expected a couple but there are a good few, and this is coming from top ballet schools. Is this very common? My daughter still wants to keep going, but it is very very tough emotionally on them all. Does it get worse once they get into a company?

What a lovely positive outlook you have irishballetmom. All the best of luck to everyone auditioning. It's a very long road ahead so stay positive.

This is nothing to do with dancers. It is what the directors sometimes want and again it's a fashion. At least false arches want do any damage, but over turning out will.

A lot of companies are asking for dancers with experience and I bet the wages are still very low.
-
This is why I believe our kids need a good education for later on. You can't work all those hours with such little pay for ever.

I thought in smaller companies the wage was very poor but in bigger companies the wage improved. Starting out it seems that you would be lucky to be earning the minimum wage in Britain. As ever in the dance world, it is considered a real privilege to get into a company, regardless of wage. If my daughter gets into a company I know that me and her dad will have to continue to support her financially, otherwise how will she afford to live?

He came to Britain at 15.

Reading dancing times, dancer junior Souza describes his early training in Brazil taught him quantity- how to do many pirrouets, turns, jetes when he came to Britain ENB - it was all about quality - clean technique, expressive epaulement, not being over the top.
Clearly junor Souza has benefited two different systems of training making him the dancer he is today. Not once does he say that his training was better in Brazil, but coupled with ENBs training he went on to achieve much more in his career so far.

Male and female for contemporary and a female for ballet.

For ballet a young Japanese lady from Central. That's the only one I know for ballet.

Think positive and go for it. I bet you ballet teacher from London thinks your physique is good enough? If you are successful you will get your student loan for Rambert but in addition to this there is other financial support available based on income. If you get a place then there will be lots of help on the forum pointing you in the right direction. All the very best of luck, believe in yourself and give your best.

My daughter is academic and we definately would NOT have sacrificed her rounded education over dance, both where equal. She did really well with her GCSE results however we decider for sixth form that she wanted to concentrate purely on dance. At 16 we felt that she was old enough to make that decision, but before that age, as parents we felt that our job was to keep her educated all round.

Just wondering can you pay as you go for these classes if they are not full on the day?

The girls I know about aren't even wanting to audition. They just don't want a career in dance anymore. For one it's about the constant ups and downs and she doesn't want that stress anymore. She's a beautiful classical dancer not from my daughters school. I'm sure she will go on to dance for herself, dancing for pleasure without all the stress.
